Gracie United Baton Rouge
Home School
Gracie United Baton Rouge Jiu Jitsu Homeschool Program offers unique benefits for homeschoolers, ages 7-13, encompassing physical, mental, and social advantages.
Physically, BJJ promotes strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health, ensuring that homeschoolers engage in valuable exercise to complement their academic pursuits.
The mental aspects of Jiu Jitsu, such as strategy, quick thinking, problem-solving, and parallel academic challenges, reinforce cognitive skills that are beneficial in both arenas. Additionally, the art of Jiu Jitsu teaches discipline and focus, traits that are crucial for the self-directed learning required in a homeschooling environment.
Socially, practicing Jiu Jitsu can be particularly beneficial as it allows homeschoolers to interact with peers, developing teamwork, communication skills, and respect for others outside of their usual educational setting. This can help mitigate the socialization concerns often associated with homeschooling by offering a structured environment where students can build friendships and learn from others with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

This Program runs from August to May on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 am. You can attend both classes per week.
In this program, students will learn all aspects of a fight, which includes standing, ground, top and bottom, guard, and submission techniques. Every lesson will reinforce the fundamental principles of energy efficiency, distance management, leverage use, and natural movements.
Students work on honing their gross motor skills including coordination, balance, endurance, leverage, and strength as they develop self-defense techniques. A typical class includes a calisthenic warm-up, a variety of technical exercises and mobility drills, in-depth work on a specific technique or series of techniques, and time for sparring.
We focus on building character, discipline, resilience, confidence, respect, and patience. Students are expected to focus, follow instructions, and take responsibility for their actions. Most group activities are structured to help them become accountable, approach challenges with a positive attitude, express their opinions respectfully and learn how to work with others to achieve a common goal. Classes are demanding, but they are also fun.
